Xia dynasty is believed to have begun as early as 2070 BCE. Early markings from this period, found on pottery and shells, have been alleged to be ancestors of modern Chinese characters. Proof of Xia's existence still requires further archaeological discovery. At present little is known of this period. The Xia Dynasty was also believed to be one of the first dynasties in Chinese History and people believed that it ruled from 2205 and 1766 BC.
