Egbert, Archbishop of Trier

Egbert (c. 850 - 9 December 993) was the Archbishop of Trier from 977 until 993.

Egbert was a son of Count Theodoric II of Holland. After being trained in the Abbey of Egmond he became the chancellor of King Otto II in 976. The following year he was appointed the Archbishop of Trier. In 984 he joined a conspiracy of Duke Henry II of Bavaria to dethrone Otto, but the following year switch allegiances back. Egbert was a known patron of science and the arts.
