Changing Tides
From History Wiki
Thus far, we have been dwelling on the rise and fall of Roman and Islamic Civilization. Together they were at the center of historical activity. It is not as if there weren't other things going on. Chinese civilization was already in full swing, and the Incas and the Mayans were making their mark in a world not yet known.
But it is Western Society that is currently determining much of present day global activity. And that Western Civilization is largely a product of the interaction between Roman and Islamic society. And while neither was ready to throw in the towel, by the 900's both societies had undergone change.
Roman society had been dominated by Rome and fellow Italian communities, only to see that domination shift northward to the Franks and Charlemagne, even as the Byzantine split off to the East. And where Islamic Society had been heavily Arab dominated, the breaking of the Omayyads by the Abbasids had let in the Persians and Eqyptian as equal participants.
But now both societies were at a crossroads in history. And others were wanting in on the action. Nothing new, but now there was no stopping them. From the north came the Norman. And from the east came Hungarians and Seljuk Turks.
