Born on February 12, 1809 in Hardin Co., Kentucky. He was the sixteenth president of the United States, from 1861 to 1865. His presidency is primarily known for the Civil War in which he successfully managed to keep the Union intact. This ultimately led to the end of Slavery as a legal institution within the United States.
He never completed his term of office, as a result of having been assassinated by John Wilkes Booth. He died on April 15, 1865 in Washington, D.C.
